  • 4 tablespoons Honey Maple syrup can be used for a vegan option.
  • 4 cloves Garlic, minced Fresh garlic is key for depth of flavor.
  • 3 tablespoons Soy Sauce Low-sodium options are available.
  • 1/2 cup Cornstarch Crucial for achieving crispy coating.
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame Oil Boosts flavor profile (optional).
  • 2 Green Onions, chopped Adds freshness and color.
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame Seeds For garnishing, adds crunch.
  • 1 cup Vegetable Oil For frying, can use canola or sunflower oil.

Preparation

  • Press the tofu: Drain and wrap the tofu in a clean towel. Place a heavy object on top and let it sit for 15-20 minutes.
  • Cut the tofu into uniform 1-inch cubes.
  • Mix the sauce: In a bowl, combine honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, and sesame oil.
  • Coat the tofu: Toss tofu cubes in cornstarch until evenly coated, shaking off any excess.

Cooking

  • Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Carefully place the tofu cubes into the hot oil and fry for about 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown.
  • Remove the cubes and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  • Lower the heat and pour the prepared honey garlic sauce into the skillet. Let it simmer for 1 minute.
  • Add the crispy tofu to the sauce and gently toss to coat.
  • Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, marinate the tofu in soy sauce and sesame oil for 30 minutes before frying. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.
