  • 1 package puff pastry (thawed) All-butter variety recommended.
  • 1 egg beaten (for egg wash) Gives the twists a shiny golden crust.

For the filling

  • 200 g fresh spinach (washed and chopped) Fresh is preferable, frozen can be used if moisture is squeezed out.
  • 150 g feta cheese (crumbled) Provides richness and tang.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for sautéing) A drizzle for sautéing the spinach.
  • Salt and pepper to taste Essentials for flavoring.
  • Optional: garlic powder, herbs (such as dill or oregano) Add according to taste.

Preparation

  • Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Sauté the Spinach: In a large skillet, drizzle olive oil and heat over medium. Add chopped spinach and sauté until wilted.
  • Seasoning: Sprinkle salt, pepper, and optional garlic powder into the wilted spinach. Cook for another minute or two.
  • Mix It Up: Remove from heat, transfer spinach into a bowl, and crumble feta over the spinach. Mix well.
  • Roll Out the Pastry: Flour your surface and roll out the thawed puff pastry. Slice it into 1-inch wide strips.
  • Fill and Twist: Place a spoonful of filling on one side of each strip, fold the other side over and twist.
  • Egg Wash: Place twists on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and brush with beaten egg.
  • Bake: Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  • Serve Warm: Enjoy your delicious twists warm, either plain or with a dip.

Notes

Ensure puff pastry is fully thawed; watch carefully while baking to avoid burning. Don’t overstuff, as that may cause pastries to explode.
