  • 1/2 cup sugar Balances the tartness of the apples.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Adds warmth and comfort.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice Prevents apples from browning.
  • 1/4 cup raisins Optional, adds a chewy texture.

For the strudel assembly

  • 1 package phyllo dough The star ingredient for flaky texture.
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted Adds flavor and richness.
  • Powdered sugar for dusting For a touch of sweetness on top.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and raisins if using.

Layering the Phyllo Dough

  • Lay out one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface and brush it with melted butter. Repeat with five more sheets.

Assembling the Strudel

  • Spoon a portion of the apple mixture along one edge of the phyllo, leaving some space at the edges.
  • Roll the phyllo over the filling tightly, tucking in the edges to seal the strudel.

Baking

  • Place the rolled strudel on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and brush the top with more melted butter.
  • Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the strudel is golden brown.

Serving

  • Let it cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar and slice to serve.

Notes

For the best results, use a mix of sweet and tart apples. Keep phyllo dough covered with a damp towel to prevent drying. Avoid overstuffing the strudel.
